Setting the table!

Welcome to my new blog! I have always loved cooking and that interest seems to grow as I grow. Cooking for other people has always been a joy of mine. When I lived in an apartment with 3 other girls I would excitedly cook for them often, as well as several of our neighbors and friends. Now I live with family, and on my days off I gladly volunteer to cook dinner. I don't think you can ever bake too many cookies, cakes, loaves of bread, casseroles, pasta courses and breakfast for dinner. There are so many exciting things to make each day and the list just gets bigger and bigger.

I never thought to myself "I want to be a cook!"Cooking has just gradually become a passion of mine as I've done it more and more over the past several years. After reading a friends food blog and wanting to cook more and "record" some of my recipes I decided to start this blog. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite recipes and food ideas with you as I start to record them for myself.

I appreciate and owe gratitude to my mother for teaching me to cook when I was young. I was never shooed out of the kitchen while dinner was being made. Instead I was given a spoon or spatula and allowed to help and therefore learn. My ideas were listened to and my help was appreciated. It was not only a good chance for me to learn about food, but it was also a great bonding experience. I was able to spend alot of quality time with my mom, my grandmother and my sister. I also grew up watching my dad cook. In our family cooking isn't a "girl job." Cooking is a hobby that anyone who is interested can participate in. And I am grateful that I was smart enough as a child to watch and help my parents and grandparents in the kitchen. I learned valuable life and food lessons that will be with me forever.

A word of advice (or warning) to my readers. Alot of the things I cook I just come up with. Alot of my recipes come straight out of my head and my heart. I don't have all my recipes written down on cards or in books. So some of the things I post here will have to be written down for the first time since they haven't been before. So I hope you hang in there with me as I try to write them down in a detailed yet simple way. And I hope you will try out some of the dishes. Cooking doesn't have to be a chore. Let cooking be something that creates fun memories for you and your family. And if you have any recipes you love or that have helped bring your family closer together I would love for you to share them with me. I will post them on here (giving credit where credit is due) and try them out for myself. Like I said, there are so many exciting things to cook each day, and whether the recipe is mine our yours I would love to share it and try it.

So let's set the table, pull out all the food and call the family together. And don't forget to enjoy! :)
